Fritz Widmer (born February 5, 1938 in Kirchberg ; † April 28, 2010 in Bern ) was a Swiss songwriter and writer . His main job was as a teacher .

Life

Growing up on a farm, Fritz Widmer attended schools in Kirchberg and Burgdorf , then studied English and German . From 1965 on he worked as a secondary teacher in Fraubrunnen , from 1970 as an English and German teacher at the Marzili Higher Middle School in Bern .

As a part-time job, Widmer had been a song translator, songwriter and writer since 1965. He initially made his songs under the influence of (and sometimes together with) Mani Matter . Then many of his own, partly reproductions and translations of Swedish songs were created, for example by Carl Michael Bellman . From 1965 a member of the Bern Troubadours , after 1970 he designed mostly solo programs, since 1982 increasingly combined with readings from his novels, columns and poems. Together with Jacob Stickelberger he made a recording of the last (as yet unpublished) chansons Mani Matters and the jointly written Kriminalgschicht , a kind of crime opera that they performed over a hundred times between 1973 and 1975.

On his later records Widmer did not play solo, but mostly accompanied by his daughters Anna (cello, mandolin) and Karin (violin, guitar, bouzouki) as well as his longtime accompanist Michael Sam Graf , the accordion player Otto Spirig and the double bass player Bänz Hadorn .

Since 1982 Widmer has written columns and articles for various newspapers. In addition to four novels, he also wrote radio reports, from about 1994 to 2000 the word for the new day for Radio DRS . With his wife Christina , a granddaughter of Hermann Hesse , he occasionally gave lectures about her famous grandfather, and in 2006 he published a book with memoirs of Hesse's Baltic grandfather Carl Hermann Hesse .
