Jacques Mauclair

Jacques Mauclair (born January 12, 1919 in Paris ; † December 20, 2001 there ) was a French actor , theater director and dramaturge .

Life

In 1945 he joined the company of Louis Jouvet Troupe, with whom he stayed until 1949. He starred in The Madness of Chaillot and Don Juan . He made his first own productions from 1953 with pieces by Henry de Montherlant, Adamov, Brecht, Ionesco, Eduardo De Filippo, Molière, Pirandello and Chekhov.

He then took over the management of the Théâtre de l'Alliance française, where he staged Eugène Ionesco's plays The King dies with himself in the title role and The Chairs . He was enthusiastic about Ionesco's repertoire and devoted himself to it for several years, discovering it for all of France. During this time he worked frequently with the actress Tsilla Chelton . He also directed at the Comédie-Française: Uncle Vanja von Chekhov, The Miser from Molière. Jacques Mauclair also created Claude Magnier's comedy Oscar in 1958 with Pierre Mondy as Bertrand Barnier and Jean-Paul Belmondo as Christian Martin, then later with Jean-Pierre Cassel as Christian Martin, before Louis de Funès took over Mondy's role in 1959. Film stars such as Madeleine Robinson (at the Théâtre modern in Joe Orton's Deer Mieter ) and Michel Bouquet (in Carlota at the Paris Théâtre Edouard VII) played under his direction. He also directed popular film stars at the Théâtre des Célestins in Lyon: Michel Auclair in The Oppenheimer Files (1965), Louis de Funès again in Oscar (1971) and Claude Jade in The Trojan War Doesn't Take Place (1975).

In 1976 he created the Théâtre du Marais in Paris, where he produced many pieces: Turgenjew, Ostrowski and again and again Ionesco. Despite all of Jacques Mauclair's devotion, his theater was closed in April 1999 before being admitted to the Cours Florent in May 2000.

Jacques Mauclair has received numerous awards: a Molière for his production of L'Avare, main prize for directing, Grand Prix national du théâtre 1993 ...

His best-known films include Christian-Jaques Les bonnes causes (Mordfall Dupré / The Devil's Weak Side) with Marina Vlady (1963), King of Hearts by Louis Malle (1966) and Gabriel Axels Amour (1970), in which he played Ghita Nørby's husband. In addition to television films and series, he starred in six theatrical adaptations in the series Au théâtre ce soir by Pierre Sabbagh.
