Jacuzzi is an internationally active American manufacturer of sanitary technology systems , in particular whirlpools , spas , bathtubs , shower stalls , fittings and taps for the bathroom area as well as sanitary ceramics such as sinks , toilet pots and bidets .
In the area of underwater massage and the whirlpool industry, Jacuzzi is the market leader as the whirlpool inventor. Colloquially, the ( trademarked ) name Jacuzzi is used as a generic name for whirlpools from any manufacturer.
The company, which has been owned by the investment company Apollo Management since 2007 , last had a turnover of around 1.2 billion US dollars for 2006, of which 767 million US dollars was attributable to the actual plumbing area and 436 million US dollars to the meanwhile Piping division, which no longer belongs to the group .
history
The company, based in Chino Hills , California , was founded in the 1910s as Jacuzzi Brothers by the seven Jacuzzi brothers from Italy . They had emigrated to the United States around 1900 from their home village of Valvasone in Friuli .
Aircraft construction
Initially the brothers Jacuzzi in the field of were aeronautical engineering and aircraft worked and produced mainly propeller as the the First World War used Jacuzzi toothpick , and aircraft parts to entire aircraft such as the siebenplätzigen monoplane Jacuzzi J-7 , the first monoplane manufactured in the US with closed cabin. The majority of these were used for mailing letters by the US Postal Service and for transporting people from the San Francisco Bay Area to Yosemite National Park . After one of the Jacuzzi brothers, Giocondo, was killed on a test flight of a Jacuzzi J-7 on July 14, 1921 , the Jacuzzis turned away from aviation and began producing water pumps .
Pump construction
After the Jacuzzis had turned away from aviation, they concentrated on the development and manufacture of feed pumps for the irrigation of agricultural fields and thus contributed to the development of arable farming in California from 1925 . The groundwater pump developed by the Jacuzzis won a Gold Medal Award at the 1930 California State Fair .
Sanitary engineering
The rheumatoid arthritis , from which Candido Jacuzzi's son Kenneth suffered, led Candido Jacuzzi to devote himself to the development of pumps in the field of hydrotherapy from the 1940s onwards . This led to the first medical hydrotherapy pump in 1956. In the 1960s the system was further developed by Roy Jacuzzi, a third generation representative and CEO and Chairman of the Board of the family company, until he launched the first whirlpool with jets and a pump fully integrated into the system in 1968 . In 1969, Jacuzzi Europe Spa was founded in Valvasone as the European headquarters of the Jacuzzi Group. Since then, the products for the European market have been produced there. In the 1970s, Jacuzzi launched the first multi-person hot tubs, as well as the first spas.
In 1979 the Jacuzzi family sold the company to Kidde Inc. With the exception of Roy Jacuzzi, who remained with the company, all family members subsequently left the company. This also applies to Remo Jacuzzi, who comes from the second Jacuzzi generation and who managed the Jacuzzi location in Brazil and founded Jason International, Inc. in North Little Rock in 1982 as his own family company.
In 1987 Kidde Inc. was taken over by Hanson plc . In the course of a realignment of the Hanson Group, a total of 34 subsidiaries were spun off from the Hanson Group under the name US Industries, including Jacuzzi Brothers Inc. Later, US Industries, in which other brands were combined in addition to the flagship brand Jacuzzi, became Jacuzzi Brands renamed and floated on the stock exchange, where the company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol JJZ until 2006 , before it was fully acquired by the investment company Apollo Management. In the course of the takeover, the piping division , which was run under the name of Zurn Industries , was separated from the Jacuzzi Group and sold to Rexnord .
