Jair-Rôhm Parker Wells (born October 13, 1958 in Tacoma ) is an American jazz bassist and composer .

Live and act

Parker Wells grew up in southern Germany before moving to New York in 1978. After a year-long tour of the United States, he studied at Tulane University in New Orleans . There he worked with local jazz and rhythm & blues musicians; he was also a member of the Tulanians University Ensemble . He had lessons from Richard Payne , who introduced him to the music of Harry Partch . In 1980 he continued his studies with Ken Simon in New York and studied the music of Anthony Braxton . In 1982 he founded the experimental band Glass Thought Theater Ensemble ; 1982/83 he was composer in residenceat the New York Theater Ensemble. In 1983 he received a grant from the Meet the Composer Foundation . 1984/85 he worked in New Jersey; He was a founding member of the New Brunswick Jazz Musician's Collective , for which he composed. In the late 1980s he played in the band Machine Gun , which also included Thomas Chapin , Robert Musso , Bill Bryant and John Richey . Until 2010 he lived in Sweden; In the 2000s he was a member of the trio 3 Bandidos , with Tobias Schmitt and Tomislav Bucalic (album Sympathy for the Donkey ). Parker Wells released his debut album Exquisite Noise in 2004 , followed by Inside of Outside (with Cyndi Dawson , 2008) and Brotherly Love in Philadelphia on the Swedish label Ayler Records , on which Elliott Levin and Eric Slick participated.
