Jakob Haselhuber

Jakob Haselhuber (born March 19, 1960 in Landshut ) is a German diplomat . He has been ambassador to Chad since the end of 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Jakob Haselhuber studied Romance studies and international law . He graduated with a master's degree in June 1989 in Zurich .

During his studies he worked as an interpreter and translator and after completing his studies until April 1991 as a freelancer for a publishing house in Germany. From October 1989 to March 1990 Haselhuber completed an internship at the European Commission in Brussels.

Haselhuber received his doctorate from the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2012 with a dissertation on the subject of multilingualism in the European Union . In addition to his work as a diplomat, Haselhuber lectures and publishes on linguistic topics.

Haselhuber is the father of four children.

career

In May 1991 Haselhuber joined the foreign service and initially completed the preparatory service for the higher foreign service. From May 1993 to July 1994 he worked in the UN Department of the Foreign Office , then moved to the Permanent Mission to the OSCE in Vienna and was transferred to The Hague in 1996 as an advisor to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities . In 1998 he returned to the Foreign Office and worked in the Political Department for Latin & Central America. In August 2001, he went to the Embassy in La Paz , Bolivia as Deputy Head . He stayed there until October 2004 and then went to the NATO Task Force in Brunssum , ( Netherlands ) as political advisor to the Commander in Chief .

Haselhuber returned to the Foreign Office in 2006, initially as Head of the Unit for European Affairs and from 2007 to 2010 as Deputy Head of the Department for Combating Terrorism, Drugs and Organized Crime.

From 2010 to 2013 Haselhuber was Deputy Head of the Embassy in Havana ( Cuba ), then Deputy Head of the Embassy in Ljubljana ( Slovenia ).

After working as a science officer at the embassy in Mexico , Haselhuber was appointed ambassador to Chad at the end of 2019 , based in N'djamena .
