Jakob Manz

Jakob Manz (born May 16, 2001 in Bad Urach ) is a German musician ( alto saxophone ).

Career

Manz grew up in Dettingen an der Erms and attended the Graf-Eberhard-Gymnasium in Bad Urach. Already at home he had a lot of contact with music; his mother is an opera singer and his father is a music teacher. At the age of five he began to learn the drums, at the age of eight he joined the recorder before he discovered the saxophone.

Manz was considered an exceptional talent. At the age of 15 he was already studying jazz & pop at the Stuttgart University of Music . Manz has been studying jazz and pop saxophone at the Cologne University of Music and Dance since 2019 .

Projects

As a teenager, Manz was part of the Baden Württemberg State Jazz Orchestra . In 2018 and 2019 he was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO), with whom he performed with Randy Brecker in the Elbphilharmonie and played on concert tours in the USA and Eastern Europe. He has also performed with well-known jazz musicians such as Ack van Rooyen , Wolfgang Dauner and the SWR Big Band , as well as at the Stuttgart Jazzopen .

Since 2017 he has been the head of the band The Jakob Manz Project with the other members Hannes Stollsteimer ( piano ), Frieder Klein ( electric bass ) and Paul Albrecht (drums). Her first EP was released in 2017, the first album Natural Energy was released on the ACT label in April 2020 .

Manz also plays in a duo with Clara Vetter (piano) and in the Marco Leibach Quintet with Marco Leibach (tba), Martin Sörös (p), Frieder Klein (b) and Alex Parzhuber (dr). He can also be heard on Ima Kyo's pop album Jetzt und heute (2018).
