Jakob Rullmann (actually: Franz Jakob Gottlieb Rullmann) (born August 12, 1807 in Eckardroth ; † January 18, 1884 in Kesselstadt ) was a German Protestant theologian and historian .

Life

education

The father was a bailiff and patrimonial judge of the von Hutten family in Eckardroth in Vogelsberg . His mother Marie was née Zinkand. Jakob attended the Ulrich-von-Hutten-Gymnasium in Schlüchtern and studied Protestant theology at the Philipps University of Marburg from 1826 .

family

On June 7, 1836, he married Karoline Ullrich (1817-1896). From this marriage there were 12 children.

job

His professional career began as the pastor's assistant in Schlüchtern, where from 1832 he also became an assistant pastor and teacher at the city school. In 1835 he took over the second pastorate in Bieber in the Spessart . After 20 years he was transferred to Hintersteinau in Vogelsberg. At this point his health was in poor health, which he attributed to the harsh climate of the area. He therefore asked for a transfer to the Main , where the climate was more favorable. In 1869 his transfer request was granted and he was given the pastor's post in Kesselstadt, which he held until his death in 1884. Until 1876 he was also a local school inspector.

Historical studies

He used the sickness-related downtime for historical, especially church history, research. First a work on the history of the Reformation of the Schlüchtern monastery was published , then a history of the parish Hintersteinau, as well as numerous articles in historical magazines. In 1870 he became chairman of the Hanau district association for Hessian history and regional studies , an office he held until 1880. After several changes in the chairmanship in a short time, he brought calm to the association's work. The highly successful archaeological activity of the association began under his aegis, and in 1874 he was able to set up a museum for the first time , the nucleus of today's Hanau Historical Museum . In 1881 his monograph on the history of Kesselstadt was published.

Honors

On February 2, 1882, on his 50th anniversary in service, he received an honorary theological doctorate from the University of Marburg for his historical research and became an honorary member of both the Hanau district association for Hessian history and regional studies and the Kassel main association.

Streets in Hanau-Kesselstadt and Eckardroth are named after Jakob Rullmann .
