Jakob Schmitt (theologian)

Jakob Schmitt (born September 10, 1834 in Tauberbischofsheim , † September 17, 1915 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and cathedral chapter in Freiburg.

Jakob Schmitt studied Catholic theology at the University of Freiburg and at the Gregoriana in Rome, where he was awarded a Dr. theol. received his doctorate. In 1857 he was ordained a priest in Rome, in 1858 he became a tutor for homiletics and catechetics at the seminary in St. Peter , and in 1884 Subregens there . In 1886 he became cathedral capitular at Freiburg Minster and responsible for the ecclesiastical training facilities at the Archbishop's Ordinariate , and was also active at the seminary as a subregens and regens until 1888. In 1902 he received the honorary title of Papal House Prelate .

Schmitt was of lasting importance for the education of the clergy in the Freiburg diocese and beyond, especially because of his numerous, widespread writings. Following Joseph Deharbe as a catechist, he was a representative of the text-analytical method of catechesis .
