Jacob people
Jakob Volk (born January 13, 1876 in Kattenes on the Moselle , † September 13, 1954 there ) was a German cabinet maker and amateur and nature photographer .
Life
Jakob Volk was born in the small town of Kattenes on the Moselle and grew up in comparatively poor conditions during the German Empire . He learned the carpentry trade and was involved, among other things, in the interior construction of various zeppelins . In addition, he also manufactured "[...] pieces of furniture of high quality and originality."
The nature lover joined the local association of nature lovers in Cologne , and was elected chairman several times. “His great interest in nature and the environment” finally prompted the self-taught man to build his own plate camera , which he used to take countless recordings. To do this, he experimented with different developer liquids and photo papers .
Jakob Volk was hit by a passing motorbike in his hometown while taking photos in 1954 and succumbed to his injuries. His estate was transferred to United Archives GmbH in 2014 .
