Jakob Wegelius
Jakob Björn Wegelius (born March 27, 1966 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish writer and illustrator . After studying literature and philosophy in Stockholm , he graduated from the Konstfack School of Art, which is also located there . Today he lives in Mörtfors, Sweden.
In 1994 his first book Spionerna i Oreborg was published . Wegelius became known in 1999 with his book Esperanza , which was nominated for the prestigious August Prize and won the Expressens Heffaklump . The translation into German is by Gabriele Haefs . It was published in 2002 and was awarded the lynx . The picture book Legenden om Sally Jones followed in 2008 and was published in Germany in 2009. It won the August Prize 2008 in the category children's books and has been the month Lynx of TIME excellent. In 2014 his children's book Mördarens Apa was published .
Life
Wegelius was born in Gothenburg in 1966 . He first studied literature and philosophy in Stockholm, and then went on to study at the Konstfack Art School , also in Stockholm.
In 2016 he was a member of the jury for The Extraordinary Book of the Children and Youth Program of the Berlin International Literature Festival .

Spionerna i Oreborg (1994) / The Spies of Oreborg (2002)
Jakob Wegelius' first children's book / picture book Spionerna i Oreborg was published in Swedish in 1994 by the Swedish publisher Bonnier Carlsen and comprises 160 pages. The German translation was published in 2002 by Patmos Verlagsgruppe . Spionerna i Oreborg has been published in Denmark , Norway and Germany , among others .
On Snarholmana, a small island, a commander sends a spy to the mainland. There he is supposed to find other spies - which turns out to be very confusing, because these do not really correspond to the description of the commander. Instead, he pursues civilians and becomes the target of the spies himself.
Mr. Balders hemlighet (1995)
Wegelius' second picture book / children's book Mr. Balders hemlighet was published in 1995 by the Swedish publisher Bonnier Carlsen in Swedish and comprises 32 pages. The book has not yet been published in German translation. Mr. Balders hemlighet has been published in Iceland , Denmark and Norway , among others .
The book tells the story of the quiet Mr. Balder, at whose party mysterious things happen.
Esperanza (1999) / Esperanza (2002)
Wegelius third picture book / children's book Esperanza was published in 1999 by the Swedish publisher Bonnier Carlsen in Swedish and comprises 140 pages. The German translation was published by Patmos Verlag in 2002. Gabriele Haefs took care of the translation. Esperanza has been published in Korea , Spain and Germany , among others .
The book tells the story of the unicyclist and juggler Halidon, who goes in search of his friend, the captain.
Esperanza was awarded the Expressens Heffaklump (2000).
Bland vågor och moln (2009)
Jakob Wegelius' fourth book, the picture book Bland vågor och moln , was published in Swedish by the Swedish publisher Bonnier Carlsen in 2009 and has 16 pages. The book has not yet been published in German translation.
The book shows detailed drawings of vehicles in the air and on the water.
Teckningar från Antarctica (2009)
Jakob Wegelius' first picture book for adults, Teckningar från Antarktis , was published in Swedish by the Swedish publisher Ritförlaget in 2009 and has 60 pages. The book has not yet been published in German translation.
The book tells the story of a Swedish-American expedition with the icebreaker Oden through the Southern Ocean. It can also be called a travel book.
Legenden om Sally Jones (2008) / Sally Jones - A trip around the world in pictures (2009)
Sally Jones - A trip around the world in pictures (Original title: Legenden om Sally Jones ) is the fourth book by Wegelius. It was published in Swedish on August 26, 2008 by the Swedish publisher Bonnier Carlsen. The German translation was published by Gerstenberg Verlag in 2009and comprises 112 pages. Gabriele Haefs took care of the translation. The book has been published in Germany, Denmark, Japan and the Netherlands , among others. It is Wegelius' fourth book.
The book tells the story of the gorilla lady Sally Jones, who has to come a long journey and endure numerous adventures to finally find her place in the world. In doing so, she is repeatedly confronted with people who want to take advantage of her and benefit from her. But in the end she finds a real friend in Henry Koskela, a sailor.
Sally Jones - A trip around the world in pictures was awarded the August Prize (2008). The features section praises: "With Sally Jones - A trip around the world in pictures, Jakob Wegelius invented an exciting and deeply moving adventure story" (Boris Halva, Frankfurter Rundschau of December 8, 2009).
Mördarens Apa (2014) / Murder Without a Corpse (2016)
Murder without a corpse (original title: Mördarens Apa ) is the seventh book by Jakob Wegelius, an adventure novel for children. It was published on April 16, 2014 by the Swedish publisher Bonnier Carlsen in Swedish and comprises 624 pages. The German translation will be published by Gerstenberg Verlag in June 2016. Gabriele Haefs took care of the translation.
The book tells the story of the monkey lady Sally Jones, who takes a long and difficult journey to save her best friend and captain from prison. So she has to face many challenges and, among other things, deal with a Maharajah in India. But on her journey she also makes good friends who are always there for her and who stand by her side on all of her adventures.
Murder Without a Corpse was awarded the August Prize (2014) and the Nordic Council Children and Young People Literature Prize (2015) , among others .
