Jakob Wolff the Elder

Jakob Wolff the Elder (* 1546 in Bamberg ; † July 16, 1612 in Nuremberg ) was a German architect and sculptor during the Renaissance .

Life

His son Jakob ( Jakob Wolff the Younger ) was born in 1571 , the date of birth of his son Hans is unclear.

Wolff worked in Würzburg from 1601 to 1605 and helped build the Marienberg fortress . In Nuremberg, he finished as a city ​​architect from 1602–1607 with the Pellerhaus, one of the most sophisticated private buildings of the German Renaissance, which merged the Venetian and German forms of construction . Another secular building built by Wolff in Nuremberg is the Toplerhaus on Paniersplatz. From 1607 to 1616 the Schwarzenberg Castle was rebuilt in Scheinfeld ; here he and his son Jakob were involved in the execution of the designs created by Elias Holl .

After the death of their father, the sons Jakob and Hans were both involved in the construction of the Nuremberg town hall .

Jakob Wolff the Elder and his son Jakob Wolff the Younger are among the German pioneers of Italian Renaissance architecture.
