The Jambatan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha ( Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge , Arabic جمبتن راج استري ڤڠيرن انق حاجه صاليها, also Malay Jambatan Sungai Kebun , engl. Sungai Kebun Bridge ) is a cable-stayed bridge which connects the city center of Brunei with the area ( Mukim ) of Sungai Kebun in Bandar Seri Begawan . It is named after Queen Saleha , the first wife of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah . The cable-stayed bridge is the first of its kind in Brunei. It was officially opened on October 14, 2017. It is the second longest cable-stayed bridge in the world with only one pylon .
architecture
The bridge is 622 m long and the main section spans 300 m. The pylon stands on the east side of the Brunei River, near the Jalan Residency , and rises up to 157 m . On the top there is an Islamic cathedral with a diameter of 8.7 m. It weighs 9.5 t. This tower has been the tallest building in Brunei ever since. The supporting structure supports a four-lane carriageway with pedestrian paths on both sides and generous road connections at both ends.
At the foot of the pylon there is a crescent-shaped island that is supposed to be reminiscent of the Panji-Panji ( Brunei's coat of arms ). There is a small building on the island that will serve as a gallery.
history
The Ministry of Construction started concrete planning for the bridge in June 2013 as part of the 10th National Development Plan. The groundbreaking ceremony was carried out on January 16, 2014 by Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah . It was carried out as a joint venture between the South Korean construction company Daelim Industrial and the local Swee . It took three years to build and cost $ 139 million in Brunei .
The bridge was opened to the public on October 2, 2017 as a test. It was opened on October 14 with a grand opening ceremony as part of the Sultan's golden jubilee. Fireworks from the companies Howard & Sons , Hunan Dream Fireworks and Liuyang Intently Fireworks were fired and a parade of decorated rafts was held.
