James C. Van Horne

James Carter Van Horne (* 1935 ) is an American economist and university professor who was, among other things, Assistant Secretary of State at the US Treasury Department between 1975 and 1976 and President of the American Finance Association in 1978 .

Life

After attending school, Van Horne first began an undergraduate degree at DePauw University , which he completed in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A postgraduate course in professional management at Northwestern University , he finished 1961 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), before 1964 a Doctor of Philosophy (there Ph.D. acquired). He then took over a professorship for economics at the business school of Stanford University in 1965 . In the following years he was also director of the MBA course from 1970 to 1973 and, for the first time, vice dean for academic affairs at Stanford Business School between 1973 and 1975.

His academic teaching and administrative work at Stanford University interrupted Van Horne when he Deputy 1975 and 1976 of assistive State Secretary at the US Treasury Department (Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Department) was. He then resumed his professorship and was again Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at Stanford Business School between 1976 and 1980. In 1984 he also became president of the American Finance Association for one year .

In 1985 Van Horne moved into the private sector and became a member of the Board of Directors of Montgomery Street Income Securities Inc. , of which he was Chairman from 1991 to 2004. At the same time, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Suntron Corporation from 2001 to 2005 and then became a member of the Board of Directors of the information technology company Synnex in 2005 . He was also temporarily a member of the Board of Directors of Knudsen Corporation , Impell Corporation , United California Bank and the National Bureau of Economic Research ( NBER ) . He was also temporarily active as President of the Western Finance Association and in the Financial Economists Roundtable .
