Life

Waissenberg was the son of a pharmacist who settled with his family in Leningrad in 1923 . After visiting the school and the electrical -Technikums Waissenberg began in 1935 to study at the Physics - Faculty of Leningrad University , where he graduated 1940th Since 1938 he worked in the Radon Laboratory of the Leningrad Radiological Institute. During the German-Soviet War he served in the Red Army from 1941 to 1944 as a platoon leader of a sound detection unit .

In 1944 Waissenberg was discharged from the army as a specialist in nuclear physics and sent to the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) in Moscow . There he worked in the Institute for Physical Problems (later the Kapiza Institute for Physical Problems), in the Lebedev Institute for Physics and from 1955 in the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics (ITEF) until his death. Here he was involved in founding the laboratory for nuclear physics photo emulsions . He built a magnet - spectrometer on the study of cosmic rays . In 1961 he received his doctorate in physical-mathematical sciences . His main focus was on elementary particles , in particular the K mesons , the My mesons and the Pi mesons . He published a compilation with the experimental data of the My meson.

In addition to his research activities, Waissenberg taught at the Chair of Physics at the Molochnoye Business Academy in Vologda from 1952 and at the Moscow Institute for Physics and Technology from 1962 (until 1970). 1975–1980 he edited the department for physics of cosmic rays and elementary particles of the journal Fisika .
