James Hector MacDonald CSC (born April 28, 1925 in Whycocomagh ) is Old Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland .

Life

James Hector MacDonald joined the religious order of the Congregation of Holy Cross at and received on 29 June 1953, the priestly ordination .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 9, 1978 auxiliary bishop in Hamilton and titular bishop of Gibba . The Bishop of Hamilton, Paul Francis Reding , ordained him episcopal on April 17 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Joseph Neil MacNeil , Bishop of Saint John's, New Brunswick , and Joseph Francis Ryan , Ex-Bishop of Hamilton.

He was named Bishop of Charlottetown on August 12, 1982, and inaugurated on October 7 of the same year. On February 2, 1991, he was named Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland .

On December 4, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
