Brendan Michael O'Brien (born September 28, 1943 in Ottawa ) is a Canadian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kingston .

Life

Brendan Michael O'Brien was ordained a priest on July 2, 1982 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Ottawa and titular bishop of Numana on May 6, 1987 . The Archbishop of Ottawa, Joseph-Aurèle Plourde , donated him episcopal ordination on June 29 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Ottawa John Michael Beahen and Gilles Bélisle .

He was appointed Bishop of Pembroke on May 5, 1993 and initiated into office on June 29 of the same year. On December 4, 2000, he was named Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland .

During the tenure from 2003 to 2005 he was chairman of the Canadian Bishops' Conference .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Archbishop of Kingston on June 1, 2007 . The inauguration took place on July 25th of the same year.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on March 28, 2019.
