Martin William Currie (born December 11, 1943 in Marinette ) is a Canadian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland .

Life

Martin William Currie was ordained a priest on June 10, 1967 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Grand Falls on December 12, 2000 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Canada , Paolo Romeo , ordained him episcopal on January 31 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Terrence Thomas Prendergast SJ , Archbishop of Halifax , and Raymond John Lahey , Bishop of Saint George’s . As a motto he chose Dominus fortitudo sperantium .

On September 9, 2006, he became the diocesan administrator of Saint John, New Brunswick . He resigned from his position as Apostolic Administrator of Saint John, New Brunswick on May 8, 2007. He was named Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland on October 18, 2007, and was appointed to office on November 30 of the same year. He resigned from his office as Bishop of Grand Falls on March 1, 2011.

On December 12, 2018, Pope Francis accepted Martin William Currie's retirement request for reasons of age.
