Joseph Faber MacDonald

Joseph Faber MacDonald (born January 20, 1932 in Little Pond , † February 17, 2012 in Stratford (Prince Edward Island) ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Saint John, New Brunswick .

Life

Joseph Faber MacDonald was initially a bank clerk and studied Catholic theology and philosophy at Saint Dunstan's University , Saint Paul University in Ottawa and the University of Ottawa and later at the Institut de liturgie pastorale et missionnaire in Bruges, Belgium . He was ordained a priest on March 9, 1963 in St. Dunstan's Basilica in Charlottetown .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Grand Falls on January 11, 1980 . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Canada , Angelo Palmas , on March 19 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Francis John Spence , Bishop of Charlottetown , and Alphonsus Liguori Penney , Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland .

He was named Bishop of Saint John, New Brunswick on October 23, 1998 and inducted into the office on January 12 of the next year. In the Canadian Bishops' Conference (CCCB) he was a member of the Commission for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Commissions for Social Affairs, Education and Christianization. He represented the CCCB on the National Catholic Broadcasting Council .

On September 9, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request for health reasons.

Joseph Faber MacDonald was a violinist and worked as a studio musician before his ordination. He co-founded the Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival in Rollo Bay in July 1976 .
