Francis John Spence

Francis John Spence (born June 3, 1926 in Perth , † July 27, 2011 in Kingston ) was a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kingston .

Life

Francis John Spence was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Kingston on April 16, 1950 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 1, 1967 Titular Bishop of Nova and Auxiliary Bishop of the Canadian Military Ordinary . The Archbishop of Québec , Maurice Cardinal Roy , donated him episcopal ordination on June 15 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Joseph Anthony O'Sullivan , Archbishop Emeritus of Kingston, and Joseph Raymond Windle , Auxiliary Bishop of Ottawa .

On August 17, 1970, he was appointed Bishop of Charlottetown . He was named Archbishop of Kingston on April 24, 1982, and inducted into office on June 30 of that year. On March 14, 1982, he was appointed bishop of the Canadian Military Ordinary; he resigned from this office on October 28, 1987. From 1995 to 1997 he was President of the Canadian Bishops' Conference.

On April 27, 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
