Joseph Raymond Windle

Joseph Raymond Windle (born August 28, 1917 in Ashdad , Ontario , Canada , † September 24, 1997 ) was a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Pembroke .

Life

Joseph Raymond Windle was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Pembroke , Canada on May 16, 1943 . His appointment as auxiliary bishop in Ottawa with the simultaneous appointment as titular bishop of Uzita he received on 15 November 1960. Archbishop Marie-Joseph Lemieux OP Ottawa and the co-consecrators Bishop William Joseph Smith of Pembroke and Bishop Émilien Frenette of Saint-Jérôme initiated him at 18 January 1961 as bishop.

On January 23, 1969 he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Pembroke and followed to the episcopate of Pembroke on February 8, 1971. Age-appropriate, he retired on May 5, 1993 and lived until his death on September 24, 1997 as a bishop emeritus from Pembroke.

He was a council father at the second to third session of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). As a bishop he was co- consecrator of Auguste Delisle CSSp as Bishop of Kabba in Nigeria , Francis John Spence as auxiliary bishop in the Canadian military ordinariate and James Matthew Wingle as Bishop of Yarmouth in Canada.
