James Laxton

James Laxton (* in San Francisco ) is an American cameraman who was nominated for an Oscar in 2017 for his work in the film Moonlight .

Life

James Laxton was born in San Francisco , where he also grew up. He is the son of Oscar-nominated costume designer Aggie Guerard Rodgers . He also has a personal friendship with the director Barry Jenkins , with whom he attended film school at Florida State University and for whose films he has already acted twice as cameraman . Films co-directed by Laxton and Jenkins include Medicine for Melancholy and Moonlight . As a cameraman, Laxton works primarily for independent productions .

In IndieWire's 2016 Critics Poll, Laxton took first place among cameramen. For his work on the film Moonlight , Laxton received several prestigious film awards and received a number of other nominations, including at the 2017 Academy Awards for Best Cinematography . In late June 2017, Laxton became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .

Laxton is married to the film producer Adele Romanski , whose film Moonlight won an Oscar for Best Picture in the same year . Laxton now lives in Los Angeles with his wife .
