James Mikely Mantell Posey, Jr. (born January 13, 1977 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is a retired American basketball player for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association . The 2.03 meter tall Posey plays the positions of small forward and shooting guard and was champion in 2006 with the Miami Heat and in 2008 with the Celtics. In the 2013/2014 season he was Assistant Coach of the Canton Charge . He has been assistant coach at the Cleveland Cavaliers since the 2014/2015 season .

Career

Posey established himself as a dependable basket hunter in college at Xavier University and was selected 18th in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets . There the athletic Posey quickly became the starting shooting guard and was good for 9 points and 5 rebounds per game . Posey was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team for his first year performance . After three respectable years with the weak Nuggets, he was first transferred to the Houston Rockets in the 2002/03 season and from them in turn to the Memphis Grizzlies , where he came to the playoffs alongside Pau Gasol , but never survived the first round . In the 2005/06 season he was signed by the Miami Heat , where he played the reserve player for Antoine Walker , the small forward of the Heat. Together with the Heat, Posey won the NBA championship and, together with his Power Forward teammate Udonis Haslem, was responsible for the fact that star power forward Dirk Nowitzki from final opponent Dallas Mavericks never developed.

After a very weak 2006/07 season , in which the Heat did not get past the first round of the playoffs, Posey was labeled "lazy and overweight" by coach Pat Riley and dismissed from his contract. Posey moved to the Boston Celtics and won the 2007/08 season as a valuable "sixth man" with the Celtics, the NBA championship.

Posey is considered a strong defensive all-rounder who, with his combination of speed and athleticism, comes off the bench and performs important defensive and offensive actions, especially in the final phase. He is also considered a hot spur who u. a. a game was suspended for a tough foul on Chicago Bulls point guard Kirk Hinrich in the 2006 playoffs. After the 2010/2011 season, Posey was released from the Pacers via an amnesty clause (see Salary Cap (NBA) ). After Posey could no longer convince a new team in the NBA of his achievements, he ended his active career.

Career as a coach

After retiring from his career, Posey announced that he wanted to work as a coach in the future. For the 2013/2014 season he became assistant coach at the Canton Charge from the NBA Development League . He has been assistant coach at the Cleveland Cavaliers since the 2014/2015 season .

Posey's girlfriend gave birth to a daughter named Sai Aleke Posey on January 24, 2008.
