James Reilly (2014)

James Reilly ( Irish Séamas Ó Raghallaigh , born August 16, 1955 ) is an Irish politician of the Fine Gael .

Life

Reilly studied medicine after attending school and took up a position as a general practitioner after completing his studies . He was also President of the Irish Medical Organization until 2007 .

In the 2007 general election, he was elected as a candidate for Fine Gael for the first time as a Member of Parliament ( Teachta Dála ) in the Lower House ( Dáil Éireann ) and represented the constituency of Dublin North until 2016 . From 2010 to 2016 he was also Vice Chairman of Fine Gael.

On March 9, 2011, the new Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Enda Kenny appointed him health minister in the Irish government after the formation of the coalition of Fine Gael and the Irish Labor Party , a post he won after months of public criticism of his conduct in the cabinet reshuffle On July 12, 2014, to Leo Varadkar to take over the Ministry of Children's Affairs until he left parliament in the 2016 election. He has been a member of the House of Lords ( Seanad Éireann ) since 2016 .
