James Stacy (* 23. December 1936 when Maurice William Elias in Los Angeles , California ; † 9. September 2016 in Ventura , California) was an American actor .

Life

Stacy initially aspired to a career in American football . After a year at Glendale College, he was drafted by the Canadian British Columbia Lions team . After two months, however, he returned to his homeland and was featured in a TV commercial for Pepsi-Cola in 1956 . As a result, he received a few minor supporting roles in feature films, but mostly without credit in the credits, such as in Sayonara . Between 1958 and 1964 he played the recurring guest role of Fred in the hit sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, with Ozzie Nelson and Harriet Hilliard in the lead roles. He also played guest roles in various television series and eventually received one of the leading roles in the western series Lancer , which was discontinued after the second season.

In the mid-1960s, Columbia Pictures gave him lead roles in two feature films, A Swingin 'Summer and The Totally Crazy Ski Hotel , which attempted to swim along on the wave of success of Frankie Avalon's Beach film series. However, there was no comparable commercial success. His career was suddenly interrupted when he was hit by a drunk truck driver on his motorcycle in 1973. His passenger was killed in the accident, and he lost an arm and a leg. He subsequently received massive support from other Hollywood stars who gave a fundraising event in his favor that raised US $ 118,000 . He returned to the big screen alongside Kirk Douglas in Men of the Law in 1975 . The following year, he was awarded $ 1.9 million in a civil lawsuit; the accused was the bar that served the truck driver the alcohol. Although he was severely limited in his choice of roles, he continued to get engagements in film and television. In 1977 he was nominated for an Emmy for the television film Just a Little Inconvenience , in which he played a Vietnam veteran . A second Emmy nomination came in 1986 for a guest role in the crime series Cagney & Lacey .

Stacy was married twice, first between 1963 and 1966 to Connie Stevens and in a second marriage from 1968 to 1969 with Kim Darby . He hit the headlines after sexually molesting an underage girl in 1995 and then repeatedly molesting two neighborhood children shortly afterwards. After being on the run in Hawaii a suicide attempt had taken, he was arrested and sentenced to six years imprisonment.
