James Spencer Henry Edmond Marcel Thierrée (born May 2, 1974 in Lausanne , Switzerland ) is a Swiss acrobat , dancer, musician , actor and film actor .

Life

James Thiérrée, a grandson of Charlie Chaplin on his mother's side , is the son of Victoria Chaplin and Jean-Baptiste Thiérrée, a French actor and writer. As a four-year-old, James performed in his parents' circus as an acrobat on a bicycle as well as an artistic gymnast and trapeze artist . He was therefore initially taught by private tutors and entered the American school in Paris at the age of twelve . He also learned to dance and play the violin and later completed an acting training at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano , the Harvard Theater School , at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris and with the American actor Robert Cordier. He made his first film appearance in the role of Ariel in the film Prospero's Books by Peter Greenaway . In 1995 he played Frédéric Rimbaud, Arthur Rimbaud's older brother, in Rimbaud Verlaine by Agnieszka Holland . Further appearances followed in the films The Vanishing Point , Bye Bye Blackbird , The Green Planet , Duel der Degen and in the Roma drama Korkoro by Tony Gatlif .

In 1998, Thiérrée founded his own theater company under the name La compagnie du hanneton . The first production by this troupe, La symphonie du hanneton (“The Symphony of the Cockchafer ”), was awarded four Molières in 2006. Another theater production, Au revoir parapluie , also received a Molière award in 2007.

In 2006, Thiérrée was nominated for the best young actor for the comedy We understand each other wonderfully by Antoine de Caunes . In 2013 he took part in the scenography of Matthieu Chedid's tour . In 2016 he and Omar Sy played the clown duo Footit and Chocolat in the film Monsieur Chocolat by Roschdy Zem . Thiérée received a César for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Footit 2017.

In 2014, Thiérée was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
