Jan-Eric Peters

Jan-Eric Peters (born April 1, 1965 in Berlin ) is a German journalist .

Career

Peters began his journalistic career in 1984 with an internship at the weekly newspaper Der Nord-Berliner . In 1995 he started his training at the German School of Journalism in Munich with a scholarship . From 1986 to 1990 he studied at the Munich School of Politics and worked as a freelance journalist. From 1990 to 1994 he worked as head of the service department and head of reports / news for the evening newspaper in Munich. He spent 1995 as a scholarship holder in the USA.

In 1996 he went to Hamburger Morgenpost as deputy editor-in-chief . He also went to the magazine Max and Max-Online in 1997 as deputy editor-in-chief, where he finally took over the management function.

In 2001 he moved to Axel Springer AG as a project developer, newspaper director . In the same year he was initially deputy editor-in-chief, and from the end of 2002 editor-in-chief of Welt and Berliner Morgenpost . In 2005 he also became publisher and founding editor-in-chief of Die Welt Kompakt (started in 2004).

From 2007 to 2010 he dedicated himself to the next generation of journalists as founding director of the Axel Springer Academy in Berlin. From 2010 to 2014, Peters was editor-in-chief of the world group ( Die Welt , Welt am Sonntag , Welt Kompakt , Welt am Sonntag Kompakt , Welt Aktuell , Welt Online , Welt Mobil and Welt HD ). From 2012 he also chaired the editorial group Welt-Gruppe, Berliner Morgenpost , and Hamburger Abendblatt .

Until the end of 2015 he was editor-in-chief of WeltN24 . In this position, he was in charge of the joint editorial team, which was created through the merger of the WELT Group and the TV channel N24 on January 1, 2015. He was responsible for all titles and journalistic formats for Die Welt , Welt am Sonntag and N24 . On January 1, 2016, he became Chief Product Officer of the new news service Upday. Editor Stefan Aust took over his duties as editor-in-chief of WeltN24 .

Miscellaneous

Peters was a scholarship holder of the German Marshall Fund Of The United States , Arthur F. Burns Fellow of the International Journalist Programs and has been the only German journalist to be part of the Young Global Leader Forum of the World Economic Forum Davos since 2005 . He has been married since 1992 and has three sons.
