Jan Błoński (sports official)

Jan Błoński (born December 19, 1949 in Kuryłówka , † December 15, 2020 in Warsaw ) was a Polish sport functional in tobogganing .

As a law student at the University of Wroclaw, Jan Błoński was an active rower of the Akademicki Związek Sportowy , the Polish student sports association. From 1980 to 1988 he was vice-president of Ludowe Zespoły Sportowe , the association of sports clubs. He was elected President of the Polish Luge Association Polski Związek Sportów Saneczkowych (PZSSan) in 1988 and remained in this position until June 26, 2010. After the incumbent president of the Luge Association , Michał Jasnosz, died on September 29, 2019, Błoński returned to the top of the Polish Association as interim president and remained there until September 12, 2020. In addition, he was a member of both the board and the presidium of the Polish Olympic Committee for many years .

Due to Błoński's longstanding commitment, an artificially frozen toboggan run was created in Krynica-Zdrój . He was the recipient of the FIL Silver Medal of Honor.

Błoński has been working in the tourism industry since completing his studies. From 1995 to 1998 he was Vice-President of the Sports and Tourism Office and as such was responsible for the legislation in the field of tourism of the Polish Parliament Sejm , in particular the 1997 Law on Tourist Services . Since 2011 he has been the President of Mazowieckiej Regionalnej Organizacji Turystycznej (MROT), the Mazovian Tourism Association. Błoński was a lecturer at several universities and from 2006 to 2010 Chancellor of Wyższej Szkole Organizacji Turystyki i Hotelarstwa , the University of Tourism and Hotel Management in Warsaw.

Błoński died four days before his 71st birthday of COVID-19 .
