Jan Behrmann

Jan Behrmann , complete Jan Hinrich Behrmann (born February 23, 1953 in Ingolstadt ) is a German geologist and university professor .

Scientific career

Jan Behrmann studied geology in Erlangen and graduated with a diploma in 1978 . In 1979 he was hired as a geologist at Esso Erz GmbH, Nuremberg . In the same year he received the "Florey European Studentship" from Queens's College, Oxford , England and stayed there until 1982. From 1982 to 1984 he was a project geologist for BP Minerals International plc, London , England. In 1983 he received a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Oxford, England. Between 1984 and 1986 he was a research assistant at the University of Tübingen , from 1986 to 1995 a member of the Academic Council at the University of Gießen and finally in 1995 he became Professor of Geology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . Jan Behrmann has been Professor of Marine Geodynamics at IFM-Geomar (today: GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel) and at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel as well as a member of the “Future Ocean” cluster of excellence since 2006 .

  • 2004–2008 PetroTec, petrography , origin and geotechnical properties of sediments in the Chile Trench. (TIPTEQ joint project)

  • 2006–2009 FastSed, Structure , Strength and Physical Properties of Young Sediments, Ursa and Brazos-Trinity Basins, Gulf of Mexico . Laboratory study as part of the SSP "Integrated Ocean Drilling Program IODP / ODP"
  • 2008–2010 Determination of rock textures by neutron diffraction and the relationship to petrophysical rock properties. Development and use of a neutron texture diffractometer at the IBR-2 reactor, Dubna, Russia.
