As early as 1876, he participated in exhibitions in Munich, Berlin, Vienna, London and Paris with sales successes. His genre and hunting images met the taste of the upper classes. The exact date of death is not given.
He was married twice: his first marriage to Marie Henschel (1858–?), Whom he had met in Munich and from whom he divorced. In his second marriage in 1893 he married the sister of the art dealer Roland Knoedler , Léonie (1859–1956), widow of Dr. Edward Karsch Henschel. Léonie and Roland were children of the well-known New York art dealer and gallery owner Michael Knoedler , in the gallery M Knoedler & Co . Chełmiński also exhibited.
