Jan Gassmann (director)
Jan Gassmann (born September 28, 1983 in Zurich ) is a Swiss film director .
Life
Jan Gassmann gained his first experience in filmmaking in 1999 on the television program VideoGang on Tele24 . After a long stay in Ecuador , he studied documentary film directing and television journalism at the University of Television and Film Munich . His first feature film Chrigu was released at the Berlinale in 2007 and was an international success. For this he was awarded the Bern and Zurich Film Awards and the Prix Walo . His next film project, Off Beat (2011), a feature film, was shown at festivals around the world and was shown in theaters in Switzerland and Germany.
Gassmann has lived in Zurich since 2010, where he founded the production company 2: 1 Film with Julia Tal and Lisa Blatter . This company produced, among other things, the documentary film Karma Shadub , in which he was involved as co-director, editor and producer with Ramòn Giger . Together with Michael Krummenacher , he developed the idea of Heimatland, a collective feature film with nine other directors about the fictional downfall of Switzerland . In 2016 he realized the semi-fictional pilot documentary Europe, She Loves , for which he portrayed love affairs between four couples in Estonia , Greece , Spain and Ireland .
