Jan Klata

Jan Klata (born February 24, 1973 in Warsaw ) is a Polish theater director.

Life

Jan Klata attended the Stephan-Báthory-Gymnasium in Warsaw from 1989 to 1993 and then began training at the Aleksander-Zelwerowicz Theater Academy in Warsaw , which he continued at the Cracow State Theater School. He learned from Krystian Lupa and Jerzy Grzegorzewski .

Even his first production by Nikolai Gogol's The Auditor in Wałbrzych was recognized as the most important directorial debut in Poland in 2003. Subsequently, Klata received numerous Polish awards for his work, including the 2006 Paszport Polityki Theater Prize . Klata has also written plays himself: Green Elephant ; Smiling grapefruit and come on, stop .

His productions have also been invited abroad: to HAU Berlin , the “Festival d'Automne à Paris” and the International Festival Buenos Aires. In 2004 he was invited to the Stückemarkt at the Berlin Theatertreffen with his own play “Usmiech grejpfruta - Smiling Grapefruit” , and in 2011 he was a member of the jury himself. With the Teatr Polski Wrocław he was in 2012 with the text A play about mother and fatherland by Bozena Keff at the Basel Theater Festival.

In 2006, Klata staged in Graz for the first time in German, then in 2009 at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and then in Dresden . In April 2011 he staged Franz Kafka's novel Amerika at the Schauspielhaus Bochum , where he directed his version of Hamlet in 2013, which he had already worked on in 2004 in Gdansk .

Since 2013 he has been running the Stary Teatr in Kraków with Sebastian Majewski .
