Jan Miroslav Bakalář

Jan Miroslav Bakalář-Srbecký , German: Johann Miroslav Bakalar-Srbecky , pseudonym: JB Srbecký (born July 16, 1857 in Srbetz , Moravia ; † January 23, 1935 in Podivín (Kostel), Czechoslovakia ) was a Moravian priest , religion teacher and Esperantist .

Life

He was the son of the mayor of Srbetz in Moravia, Josef Bakalář, who was in office there for over 30 years, and his wife Veronika nee Blazek. After attending the Catholic High School, he studied theology at the seminary in Brno and was ordained a priest there in 1884. Then he was chaplain in Křižanov, Jenešov and Bučovice and for a time administrator in Bohuslavice and then in 1887 became a catechist at the general schools in Břeclav. From 1889 Jan Miroslav Bakalář-Srbecký worked as a citizen school catechist in Brno and in 1898 followed the call as pastor in Angern an der March in Lower Austria , where he stayed until Czechoslovakia was founded at the end of 1918. He moved to Podivín in South Moravia and a little later worked as a catechist in Valtice until he retired. Most recently, he lived as a retired religion teacher in Podivín, where he died in 1935.

Bakalář dealt intensively with the world auxiliary language Esperanto , wrote several religious writings on school use, took an offensive against dirty and junk literature and actively campaigned for animal welfare. He also used newspapers abroad, for example in Munich , London and Turin . In Prague he was a corresponding member of the Esperanto Institute.
