Jan Robert Bloch

Jan Robert Bloch (born September 10, 1937 in Prague ; † May 13, 2010 in Berlin ) was a natural scientist, educator and social philosopher .

Life

Jan Robert Bloch was the son of the architect Karola Bloch and the philosopher Ernst Bloch . He grew up in the USA and in the GDR. In 1961 he moved with his parents to the Federal Republic of Germany when the GDR wall was built . As a scientist, he taught at the Institute for Science Education at the University of Kiel and gave lectures in the fields of political philosophy and sociology at the University of Potsdam .

In projects of the German Research Foundation he investigated the changing world of work in Germany and Southeast Asia . He was a member of the Ernst Bloch Society. He was on the board of trustees of the Ernst Bloch Foundation and on the scientific advisory board of the Ernst Bloch Center in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. With his technical expertise as a chemist, he supported the ecological discussion of the anti-nuclear movement . He initiated the interdisciplinary "Working Group on Nature Quality" ("Problem community for the purpose of presenting and discussing approaches to a pedagogy of the qualitative concept of nature") with experts from different disciplines such as Michael Daxner , Rudolf zur Lippe , Burghart Schmidt , Christine Woesler or Brigitte Wormbs . Jan Robert Bloch was non-party.

He published several books, as well as numerous articles in the Bloch yearbook of the Ernst Bloch Society , in the yearbook "Vorschein" of the Ernst Bloch Association and accompanied the publication of the works and the estate of Karola Bloch in the Talheimer Verlag. He advocated the development of a “Critical Complete Edition” of Ernst Bloch's work. He supported the work of the Löwenstein Research Association Mössingen to come to terms with the history of Artur and Felix Löwenstein, the Jewish founders of the textile company PAUSA, which is affiliated with the Bauhaus Dessau.

Jan Robert Bloch had three children. Hannes Gustav (* 1976) and Anna Leonore (* 1978) Bloch emerged from his first marriage to June Ann Bloch (born Trammell, 1941–2007), Benjamin Pasero (* 1981) as the third child from a long-term relationship with Ursula Pasero .

Jan Robert Bloch was married to Anne Monika Sommer-Bloch.

He died in Berlin after a short illness.
