Jared Shumate (born March 6, 1999 ) is an American Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Shumate, who starts for the Park City Nordic Ski Club, made his international debut at the age of sixteen on February 13, 2016 in Ramsau in the Continental Cup . Shortly thereafter, he was a participant in the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2016 in Râșnov , where he only reached the lower ranks in both individual competitions and came sixth with the team. He won his first Continental Cup point at the start of the 2017/18 season in Steamboat Springs . In the rest of the season, however, he missed the points and also at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2018 in Kandersteg he could not reach the top 30.

In December 2018, Shumate started the season with 7th and 6th place in Steamboat Springs in the Continental Cup , which shows that he has clearly improved his form. At the beginning of January he made his debut in the World Cup in Otepää , but could not win any points. His better performance was also reflected in significantly better results at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2019 in Lahti , where he finished ninth in the Gundersen singles after finishing 20th in the sprint and tenth in the relay . After further punctual appearances in the Continental Cup, he was called up for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld . There he was only used in the individual competition on the normal hill, which he finished on rank 45. Together with Taylor Fletcher , Grant Andrews and Ben Loomis , he also finished tenth with the team.

In the winter of 2019/20, Shumate first started in the Continental Cup , where he regularly reached the points. So that the United States could take part in the relay competition in Oberstdorf , he was reassigned to the World Cup team at the end of January 2020 . Together with Jasper Good , Taylor Fletcher and Ben Loomis, he finished eighth, seven minutes behind the victorious Norwegians. The next day he achieved his first result in the top 40 with 39th place in the individual, but still remained pointless.
