Festenberg Castle

Festenberg Castle ( Polish : Pałac w Twardogórze ) is a castle in Twardogóra (German Festenberg ) in the Powiat Oleśnicki ( Oels district ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

history

Castle portal

Presumably a ducal castle already existed here when the city was founded in 1293 , which at that time belonged to the Duchy of Glogau and when it was divided it came to the Duchy of Oels . Later it was owned by von Borschnitz and von Dyhrn . From 1594 it belonged to the Barons Köckritz , who replaced the previous moated castle with a permanent house .

The barons Köckritz sold Festenberg in 1676 to Duchess Eleonore Charlotte von Württemberg-Mömpelgard (1656–1743), who had the castle rebuilt after 1685 in the early Baroque style. The current shape dates from 1715, when the castle was probably redesigned according to plans by Christoph Hackner . From 1743 the castle was owned by Heinrich Leopold von Reichenbach , who incorporated Festenberg and the castle into the neighboring Goschütz rule .

After the transition to Poland as a result of World War II in 1945, the castle was renovated from 1963 to 1966 and after 1973 two short side wings were added. The castle is currently used by a school association.

Building

The building is a rectangular two-storey plastered building with a mansard roof and a risalit on the front and back. The entrance portal shows the coat of arms and monogram of Duchess Eleonore Charlotte. Remains of trenches and earth walls are visible in the east and south. The baroque park was transformed into a landscape park in the 19th century.
