Jason Seley
Jason Seley (* 1919 in Newark , New Jersey , USA ; † 1983 in New York City ) was an American sculptor .
life and work
Jason Seley studied from 1943 to 1945 at the Art Students League in New York with Ossip Zadkine . From 1947 to 1949 he still studied at Le Center d'Art in Haiti . In 1950 he received a Fulbright scholarship to study in France . He also traveled to Italy and was impressed there by Andrea del Verrocchio's equestrian statue Colleoni , which would influence his future work as a sculptor.
His preferred material for his sculptures was chrome-plated steel, usually made from automobile bumpers . He used it to form intricate, abstract, almost organic-looking sculptures. In 1964, some of his works were represented in the sculpture department at documenta III in Kassel .
He was a professor at Hofstra , New York University and was Dean of the Art School at Cornell University for many years until his death in 1983.
