Career
Musical beginnings
During his studies Colon was a singer in the soul band EmcQ . When the band opened a show for the soul trio Soullive , the trio's guitarist was impressed by Colon's vocals and suggested his friend Derek Trucks , who was currently looking for a singer for his band The Derek Trucks Band . After graduating, he joined the band in August 2000. After touring with the band for nearly two years, he left in April 2002 to embark on a solo career.
In 2003 he released his debut album called Javier on Capitol Records . The album and the first single Crazy were moderately successful. His second studio album Left of Center, on the other hand, barely attracted any attention and didn't even hit the Billboard 200 . In 2010 he independently published his third work, Extended Play The Truth - Acoustic .
Breakthrough with The Voice
In 2011 he took part in the American version of The Voice , in which he also won. His winning single, Stitch by Stitch , was produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and made it into the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 . In the same year he released his third album Come Through for You on Universal Republic Records . Among other things, artists like Natasha Bedingfield or Adam Levine , who incidentally was Colon's coach in the casting show The Voice , can be heard on the album. Six months later, Colon announced that he was leaving the record company.
