Javier García Portillo (born March 30, 1982 in Aranjuez ) is a former Spanish football player . His preferred position was that of the center forward .
Career
The center forward joined Real Madrid's youth team in 1994 , where he played successfully in the various youth categories. In the 2001/02 season he worked for the second team of the Madrilenians, Real Madrid Castilla , and made his debut on March 20, 2002 in the first squad, in the Champions League game against Panathinaikos Athens . He crowned his first outing with a goal.
Portillo, who holds the record in Real Madrid's youth with over 150 goals, was transferred to the first team in the summer of 2002, where he was unable to secure a regular place in two seasons. So the club finally awarded him in the summer of 2004 to the Italian first division club Fiorentina , where he mostly played in midfield. The departure of Fernando Morientes in January 2005, and the resulting shortage of strikers, led Real Madrid to end the loan deal early and took Portillo back into the squad, but under coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo he only made two league appearances.
He played the 2005/06 season on loan for Club Bruges and scored eight goals in 24 league appearances. He also contributed two goals in the Champions League and one in the UEFA Cup .
After his return to Real Madrid, they transferred the striker to promoted Gimnàstic de Tarragona in the summer of 2006 , where he was unable to prevent the Catalans from being relegated immediately despite eleven goals. Portillo worked for CA Osasuna from 2007 to 2009 . After two years at Osasuna, he moved to Hércules Alicante , with whom he rose to the Primera División in 2009/10 . In 2011 he left Hércules in the Segunda División in the direction of UD Las Palmas .
After only one season he returned to Hércules Alicante . There Portillo ended his active career on December 28, 2015.
