Jay Blankenau (born September 27, 1989 in Sherwood Park ) is a Canadian volleyball player .

Career

Blankenau also played basketball and handball before he decided on volleyball. After graduating from Bev Facey High School in Sherwood Park, he began his career at Mount Royal College. In 2009 he took part in the NORCECA Championship and the World Championship with the Canadian Juniors . In 2010 he began his studies at the University of Calgary , where he plays in the Dinos team. In 2015, the Canadian international moved to Groningen for the Dutch first division club Abiant Lycurgus . With the team, the setter won the national cup and the championship in the 2015/16 season; these were the first titles in the club's history. He was then committed by the German Bundesliga club SWD Powervolleys Düren . With the Canadian national team he took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . The Canadians reached the quarterfinals in second place, where they were eliminated by Russia . With the SWD Powervolleys, Blankenau took third place in the 2016/17 Bundesliga season . He then moved to the Belgian first division club Noliko Maaseik .
