Jay Cameron (* 14. September 1928 in New York City ; † 21st March 2001 ) was an American jazz - saxophonist and baritone saxophonist of modern jazz .

Live and act

Jay Cameron learned the saxophone from 1940 and played in various bands from 1944, for example with Ike Carpenter from 1946 to 1947. From 1948 to 1955 he stayed in Europe, where he worked with Rex Stewart , Bill Coleman , Roy Haynes and Henri Renaud, among others and worked with his own formation, which included Bobby Jaspar , Barney Wilen and Jean-Louis Chautemps . Then he played in Boyd Bachmann's Big Band . From 1956 Cameron worked in the United States with Woody Herman (1956), Maynard Ferguson (1957-58), Slide Hampton (1960), Candido , Bill Barron , André Hodeir , Hal McKusick and with Les and Larry Elgart .
