Jay Russell

Jay Russell (born January 10, 1960 in North Little Rock , Arkansas , USA ) is an American film director , film producer and screenwriter .

Short biography

Russell studied directing at Columbia University , where he graduated in 1984. The well-known Czech film director Miloš Forman was one of his teachers . His first commissioned work included directing commercials for the national parks in his home state of Arkansas. The client was the then governor of Arkansas, who later became US President Bill Clinton .

In 1987, at the age of only 27, Russell directed a feature film - the drama Full Steam to Chicago starring Wilford Brimley and Kevin Bacon . Still, it would be 13 years before Russell managed to direct again in 2000. In the meantime he has staged documentaries for the Discovery Channel , CBS and USA Network, among others .

Russell returned in 2000 with the comedy My Dog Skip and has since directed three other films. One of his last works is the fantasy film My Friend, the Water Dragon from 2007.

Russell has been married to film prop and production designer Lee Cunningham since 1991 .
