In Fire (Original title: Ladder 49 ) is an action - drama from the year 2004 by Jay Russell with Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta in the lead roles. The firefighter Jack Morrison and his colleagues go every day life in danger to save people from burning buildings. One day, Unit 49, which includes Jack, is called to a terrible fire. When Jack tries to save a man from the flames, his own life is in danger.

While his boss Mike Kennedy and his colleagues do everything they can to free the trapped man, Jack looks back on his life. In the end, Jack dies in the flames.

Originally the film was supposed to be shot in New York . After the attacks of September 11 the location was for Baltimore laid. The actors spent a long time in a fire station before shooting in order to be able to portray the firefighters more authentically.
