history

The Jazzmeile Thuringia has been organized since 1992 by the “AG Jazzmeile Thüringen”, an inter-municipal working group in which 18 Thuringian municipalities are involved. In the AG Jazzmeile Thuringia is the "LAG Jazz eV", the state working group of Thuringian jazz clubs and jazz musicians united. Managing Director and Head of Program is Thomas Eckardt from Jena.

In 1994, under this title, the first joint festival of the cities of Weimar and Jena performed, the Jazz Fest Jena and the International Jazz Workshop brought together in Weimar. This small festival was an immediate success, so that more and more cities joined this cooperation in the following years, which resulted in the Thuringia Jazz Mile . Jazz festivals from other cities were incorporated, such as the International Sonneberg Jazz Days , the Nordhausen Jazz Festival , the Altenburg Jazz Days and the Jena Jazz Festival . In addition, workshops such as the International Jazz Workshop Weimar take place as part of the Jazz Mile . The festival has been managed by a full-time project manager since 1998. In December 2011 the project was honored with the Thuringian Culture Prize for its longstanding cultural commitment .
