Jean-Pierre Berger

Jean-Pierre Berger (born January 1, 1929 in Neuchâtel ; † February 12, 2018 , entitled to reside in Neuchâtel and Dompierre ) was a Swiss politician ( SVP ).

biography

Berger attended agricultural school and then specialized in fruit growing .

He got into politics through professional organizations. From 1957 he was a member of the Union fruitière vaudoise , from 1969 to 1996 the Swiss fruit growing Commission , and the Swiss Fruit Association . He also presided over the Chambre vaudoise d'agriculture from 1964 to 1990 .

In 1972 he was appointed to the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud voted and remained there until the year 1983. Two years after taking office, so in 1974, he became mayor of Dompierre and held this position until 1992.. From 1983 to 1995 Berger was a member of the National Council .

He stepped down from the party line when he advocated Switzerland's accession to the European Community (EC). He was also a member of various commissions and was particularly involved in maternity insurance , the NEAT and the 10th AHV revision. From 1994 to 1995 he was President of the Swiss delegation to the Council of Europe and completed numerous missions, especially in Eastern Europe .

Furthermore, Berger was president of the Fédération romande pour l'énergie from 1991 to 1997 and was a member of the Synodal Council of the Canton of Vaud from 1976 to 1984.
