history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1228 under the name Donperro , but the village probably existed a few centuries earlier. The place name is derived from the Latin word dominus (lord, owner) and the name Pierre (Peter). Another Latin name for the village is Templum Petri .

Dompierre was owned by the Bishop of Lausanne , who gave tithe to the Lausanne Cathedral Chapter. From the 13th to the 15th century, a local noble family is known who took the name de Dompierre. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Dompierre came under the administration of the Moudon Bailiwick . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic , which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Moudon district.

Attractions

There was a church in Dompierre since the 12th century, but possibly even earlier. The present church was built on the site of the medieval building in 1839, while the rectory dates from 1752. In the old town center some typical farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
