Until the merger to form Valbroye on July 1, 2011, Villars-Bramard was a municipality in the Broye-Vully district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .

geography

Villars-Bramard is 734 m above sea level. M. , twelve kilometers south-southwest of the district capital Payerne (air line). The farming village extends on the upper eastern slope of the Broye , in the eastern Vaud Central Plateau .

The area of the 3.2 km² former municipal area covers a section of the hill country between the Broyetal and the Glânetal . Most of the area is taken up by the northwest-facing slope of Villars-Bramard, on which the headwaters of the Trémeule stream are located. To the east, the municipal area extended to the broad ridge between the middle Broyetal and the Glâne and reached the Bois de Bossens at 804 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Villars-Bramard. The right brook of the Broye, which flows into Marnand , also rises in this forest . The eastern part of the municipality comprised the extensive forest area Forêt de Farzin . In 1997, 4% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 39% for forests and woodlands and 57% for agriculture.

A few individual farms belonged to the municipality of Villars-Bramard. Neighboring communities of Villars-Bramard were Dompierre , Seigneux , Cerniaz and Villarzel in the canton of Vaud and Romont in the canton of Friborg .

With 116 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2010) Villars-Bramard was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 96.6% of the residents are French-speaking, 1.7% German-speaking and 0.9% Portuguese-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Villars-Bramard was 172 people in 1900. After the population had decreased by around 50% to 88 people up to 1980 due to strong emigration, a slight increase in population has been observed since then.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, Villars-Bramard was predominantly an agricultural village. Even today, arable farming and cattle breeding play an important role in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector.

Villars-Bramard is located off the major thoroughfares on a connecting road from Marnand to Romont . Villars-Bramard is connected to the public transport network by a postbus course that runs from Payerne to Romont.

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1155 under the name Villa Balmal . Later the names Villar Bremar (1180), Villabramar (1184) and Villars Bramar (1394) appeared. The place name is made up of the late Latin word villare (hamlet, farmstead) and the Germanic personal name Ballomar , Balmar or Bramar .

Since the Middle Ages , Villars-Bramard has belonged to the Villarzel Castle Bailiwick, which was under the sovereignty of the Bishop of Lausanne. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Moudon . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Villars-Bramard belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Payerne district. Villars-Bramard does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Dompierre .
