Treytorrens (Payerne) is a municipality in the Broye-Vully district in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .
geography
Treytorrens (Payerne) is 661 m above sea level. M. , 12 km west-southwest of the district capital Payerne (air line). The clustered village extends on a ledge on the western slope of the Petite Glâne , in the Molasse hill country of the northern Vaud Central Plateau .
The area of the 3.1 km² municipal area covers a section of the hill country between Lake Neuchâtel and the Broyetal . The eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the valley of the upper Petite Glâne; east of the river is the forest of Le Chanex (up to 685 m above sea level ). In the west, the area extends into the Bois du Mont , in which at 733 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Treytorrens (Payerne) is located. To the north, the municipality extends to the high plateau of Cudrex and Grands Champs (around 680 m above sea level ). In 1997, 4% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 21% for forests and woodlands and 75% for agriculture.
Treytorrens (Payerne) includes the hamlet of Les Molliettes ( 624 m above sea level ) on the Petite Glâne and several individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Treytorrens (Payerne) are Chavannes-le-Chêne , Valbroye and Champtauroz in the canton of Vaud and Nuvilly and Murist in the canton of Friborg .

With 120 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Treytorrens is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 95.1% of the residents are French-speaking, 2.9% German-speaking and 1.0% Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Treytorrens (Payerne) was still 164 in 1900. Until 1970 (104 inhabitants) the population decreased continuously, since then the number of inhabitants has remained more or less stable.
economy
Treytorrens (Payerne) was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, arable farming , fruit growing and cattle breeding play an important role in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Some workers are commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
traffic
The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a connecting road from Prahins to Murist . Treytorrens is connected to the public transport network by a bus that runs a circular route through the hinterland from Estavayer-le-Lac . The Yvonand circuit also makes a detour to the village at certain times of the day.
history
The first written mention of the place took place in the 12th century under the names Troiterens and Troyterens . The names Troterens (1194), Troiterains (1217), Troutereins (1251), Tretorens (1380), Treitorens (1668) as well as Troitorens and Troistorens appeared later . The place name goes back to the Burgundian personal name Þrautahar and means for the people of Þrautahar .
Since the 12th century Treytorrens (Payerne) formed its own small rule, which was initially under the sovereignty of the Bishop of Lausanne, and from the 13th century under that of the Dukes of Savoy. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Moudon . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Treytorrens (Payerne) belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was first assigned to the Moudon district, in 1803 it came to the Payerne district.
Attractions
The reformed church of Saint-Jean-l'Evangéliste dates from the 15th century and has a flamboyant portal. Next to the church is the former castle of the Lords of Treytorrens, also built in the 15th century, with its late Gothic windows. Some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.
