Bussy-sur-Moudon is a municipality in the Broye-Vully district in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .

Bussy-sur-Moudon is 628  m above sea level. M. , 18 km southwest of the district capital Payerne (air line). The clustered village extends on a terrace on the upper western valley slope of the Broye , in the Molasse hill country of the eastern Waadtländer Mittelland .

The area of ​​the 3.1 km² municipal area covers a section of the hill country between the valley of the Mentue and the middle Broyetal. The municipality floor extends from the terrace of Bussy westwards over the height of the Bois de la Grange (at 701  m above sea level the highest point of the municipality) to the adjoining valley Vallon des Vaux , through which the Cerjaule flows. The southern border forms the valley of the Riau Gresin , which, like the Cerjaule, is a left side brook of the Broye. In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was in settlements, 21% in forests and woodlands, 73% in agriculture and a little less than 1% was unproductive land.

Several individual farms belong to Bussy-sur-Moudon. The neighboring municipalities of Bussy-sur-Moudon are Lucens , Moudon , Neyruz-sur-Moudon and Oulens-sur-Lucens .

With 214 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Bussy-sur-Moudon is one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 93.6% of the residents are French-speaking, 2.2% German-speaking and 1.6% Portuguese-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Bussy-sur-Moudon was 245 in 1850 and 198 in 1900. Thereafter, a further decrease to 156 inhabitants was recorded by 1970; since then the population has increased slightly again.

economy

Bussy-sur-Moudon was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, arable farming , fruit growing and cattle breeding play an important role in the income structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Some workers are commuters who work mainly in Moudon, but also partly in Lausanne.

The community is located off the main thoroughfares on a connecting road from Moudon to Oulens-sur-Lucens . The village is connected to the public transport network through a postbus course that runs from Moudon to Bussy-sur-Moudon and partly onwards via Villars-le-Comte to Thierrens .

history

The Roman road from Minnodunum (Moudon) to Eburodunum ( Yverdon-les-Bains ) ran through the municipality of Bussy-sur-Moudon . In 1858 a bronze statuette from that time was found. The place was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century under the name Buxi . The place name is probably derived from the Latin word buxus (boxwood).

Since the middle of the 14th century, Bussy-sur-Moudon belonged to the Savoy Kastlanei Moudon. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Moudon Bailiwick . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Bussy-sur-Moudon belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic , which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Moudon district. Bussy-sur-Moudon does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Moudon.
