Combremont-le-Petit was a municipality in the Broye-Vully district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland until it merged with some neighboring municipalities to Valbroye on July 1, 2011 .

Combremont-le-Petit is 665  m above sea level. M. , 13 km southwest of the district capital Payerne (linear distance). The clustered village extends in a small hollow on the high plateau between the valleys of the Petite Glâne and the Lembe , in the Molasse hill country of the northern Vaud Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the 5.7 km² former municipal area covers a section of the hilly country between Lake Neuchâtel and the Broyetal . The central part of the municipality was taken up by the open, slightly undulating plateau of Combremont, which is drained to the northeast to the Lembe. To the south, the municipality extends over the height of Vy de Moudon ( 737  m above sea level ) to the course of the Lembe, to the east to the forest hill Le Chanex between the valley cuts of the Lembe and its left side stream. In the west, the area extends over the height of La Râpe ( 710  m above sea level ) into the headwaters of the Petite Glâne. In the far south is the Bois de Montfrioud forest , in which at 780  m above sea level. M. the highest point of Combremont-le-Petit is reached. In 1997, 7% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 22% for forests and woodlands and 71% for agriculture.

With 378 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2010) Combremont-le-Petit was one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 93.2% of the residents are French-speaking, 3.3% German-speaking and 1.4% English-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Combremont-le-Petit was 445 in 1850 and 399 in 1900. After the population had decreased to 272 by 1970, a significant increase in population has since been registered again.

Combremont-le-Petit was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, arable farming , fruit growing and cattle breeding play an important role in the income structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. Combremont-le-Petit is the location of a cheese dairy. There used to be a mill on the Petite Glâne. A motocross race is held here every year. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community with the construction of new single-family house quarters. Some workers are commuters who work in the larger towns of the Broye Valley.

Combremont-le-Petit is located off the major thoroughfares on a connecting road from Estavayer-le-Lac to Thierrens . The village is connected to the public transport network by a postbus course that runs from Payerne to Combremont-le-Petit. It is also served by a circuit from Estavayer-le-Lac through the hinterland.

history

The first written mention was made in 911 under the name Cumbromo , when the village was donated to the Bishop of Lausanne. Later the names Cumbremont (1142), Combremont (1184), Cumbremunt (1225) and Conbremont (1233) appeared. The place name goes back to the old French word combre (confluence).

Combremont-le-Petit formed its own small lordship in the Middle Ages , which in the 15th century belonged to the dukes of Savoy . In 1553 the rule was bought by the lords of Combremont-le-Grand, but in 1630 it was confiscated by Bern due to an illegally conducted witch trial. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Combremont-le-Petit came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Moudon . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 the village was first assigned to the Moudon district, in 1803 it came to the Payerne district.

Attractions

The Combremont-le-Petit church was built in 1878. The parish hall dates from 1820, a community oven was also built around this time. Some stately farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.
