The area of the 1.6 km² municipal area covers a section of the Molasse hill country between the valley of the Mentue and the middle Broyetal . The main part of the area is occupied by a high plateau, which is at an average altitude of 640  m above sea level. M. lies. The municipal boundary runs mostly on the edge above the steep drop to the Broyetal (in the east) and to the Vallon des Vaux (in the south). To the south of the village is the Forêt de l'Envuissel ( 656  m above sea level ). On the hill Petit Crêt north of the village is 670  m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Cremin. The formerly boggy area of Grand Marais was drained during the Second World War . In 1997, 6% of the municipal area was in settlements, 23% in forests and woodlands, 70% in agriculture and a little less than 1% was unproductive land.

Several individual farms belong to Cremin. The neighboring municipalities of Cremin are Lucens and Forel-sur-Lucens in the canton of Vaud and Surpierre in the canton of Friborg .

population

With 58 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2015), Cremin was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 94.1% of the residents are French-speaking and 5.9% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Cremin was 101 people in 1850 and 68 people in 1900. Thereafter, a further decrease to 45 inhabitants was recorded by 1980; since then the population has increased slightly again.

economy

Cremin still lives mainly from agriculture , especially from agriculture , fruit growing and cattle breeding . There are only a few jobs outside the primary sector. A farm owner has created a second mainstay in the service sector with the construction of a swing golf course . The steady decline in population led to the closure of the village school as early as 1933. Due to a very restrictive zoning plan, no new residential buildings have been built to date.

traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a connecting road from Lucens to Surpierre . The Postbus course, which runs from Granges-près-Marnand to Cheiry , connects Cremin to the public transport network.

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1365 under the name Cremyn . The place name is derived from Crêt-Mare (meaning crêt sur le marais , slight elevation in or on the edge of a moor), from which Cremar first developed , then Cremin .

Since it was first mentioned, Cremin was part of the lordship of Lucens, which in turn was under the Bishop of Lausanne. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Cremin came under the administration of the Moudon Bailiwick . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic , which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Moudon district. Cremin used to belong to the Curtilles parish , which was merged with Lucens.

Attractions

Cremin has had a village oven since 1812; the building was last restored in 1993.
